An Italian variety native to Sicily. It is well suited to the warm Mediterranean climate we enjoy in McLaren Vale.
A recently new addition to the Amery vineyard. Block 5 (between the legendary Block 6 and the creek) was planted to Nero d'Avola in 2010. The decision to plant some at Amery was made after Colin enjoyed a bottle with dinner one evening. He was in Atlanta visiting distributors several years ago and the bottle made such an impression he knew immediately that he wanted to explore this variety further.
3.93 tonnes of Nero d’Avola grapes were hand harvested on the 27th of March 2018. The fruit was open fermented, and hand plunged for 8 days on skins, prior to traditional Basket Pressing. The wine then matured for 9 months in aged French oak hogsheads. Bottled in February 2019.
