For well over a century Shiraz has been the hero variety for Kay Brothers, producing wines of outstanding quality, depth and longevity. The Basket Pressed Shiraz continues this tradition. The wine is sourced from vineyards with a predominately eastern exposure. Soil varies from sandy loam at the top of the hill to heavier loam and clay further down the hill towards the creek. The dry climate forces the vine roots, ranging from 9–18 years, to delve into the complex underlying geology, consisting of quartz and ironstone gravels, weathered and calcareous sandstone, siltstone and limestone. The Basket Pressed Shiraz provides a fruit driven, full bodied McLaren Vale Shiraz in true Kay Brothers style.
Colour: Deep ruby.
Nose: Lifted floral notes, dark fruits followed by cedar and an underlying earthiness.
Palate: A complex mixture of red and dark berry fruits, black olive tapenade, crunchy acidity and finishing with fine-grained chalky tannins. A wine for all occasions that is dense and concentrated, but with balanced structure which allows it to retain freshness.
