Grenache has long been held in high regard in McLaren Vale as a versatile variety wonderfully suited to the Vale's coastal climate. A soft, elegant wine that pairs beautifully with food our Grenache is rapidly becoming a firm favourite amongst our supporters.
Planted on the Eastern facing slope below the winery, our Grenache enjoys a sunny aspect, often tempered by a cooling afternoon breeze. Fermented in the original open top fermenters and Basket Pressed, the Grenache spends a short time in large oak barrels.
The result is an elegant, juicy Grenache with a bright sweet/savoury palate. Gentle tannins and a fleshy palate give Grenache a soft and generous mouth feel. This old timer of the Vale is enjoying it's time back in the spot light.
8.55 tonnes of Grenache grapes were hand harvested on the 10th March. The final ripening period of the 2016 vintage was perfect for Grenache, producing lovely evencolour and flavour development in all bunches.
Soils are shallow red sandy loam over quartz gravel and ironstone. The grapes were open fermented and hand plunged for 9 days on skins, prior to traditional Basket pressing.
The wine matured a further 8 months in aged Frenchoak puncheons. Colour: Bright red garnet.Nose: Pretty aromatic notes of rose petal, raspberries and Turkish delight.Palate: A densely concentrated wine packed with juicy red berry fruits, soft velvet tannin and refreshing acidity.
